Other Oscillation Experiments
Only a smattering really, covering the more modern ones.
- Super-Kamiokande Massive water cerenkov detector located in Japan. As of 2005 has the most precise atmospheric oscillation data. Also an excellent solar neutrino observatory. English language site here.
- SNO Solar neutrino observatory located in a nickel mine below Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.
- KAMLAND Studying low energy electron anti-neutrinos produced by Japan's many nuclear reactors. Complementary to solar neutrino experiments.
- LSND Muon anti-neutrino to electron anti-neutrino oscillation experiment. Reported an exciting, if controversial, result: they see a signal. (link unfortunately no longer active)
- MiniBooNE Fermilab experiment to explore the neutrino oscillation signal reported by the Los Alamos LSND experiment - taking data 2004/2005
- CHOOZ Studied electron anti-neutrinos produced in a nuclear reactor locate at Chooz, France. Currenly has the best limit on electron neutrino to muon neutrino oscillations.
- OPERA To be located in the Gran Sasso underground laborator in Italy and study a neutrino beam produced at CERN. Currently being constructed. Complementary to MINOS as it may be able to observe the apperance of tau neutrinos.
- ICARUS Also to be constructed at Gran Sasso. Uses a time projection chamber to study rare processes, including neutrino interactions from the CERN beam.
Other Neutrino Experiments
A selection of recently completed, operating or proposed non-oscillation neutrino experiments, mostly from Fermilab.
- MIPP - an experiment to measure particle production, such as the pion particles which decay to neutrinos - part of it's data will be taken using the NuMI target - taking data 2004/2005
- Minerva - an experiment which will be located just upstream of the MINOS Near Detector - in the design stage
- NOνA - NuMI Off-Axis νe Appearance, an experiment in the proposal stage, to be located in northern Minnesota near the Soudan Mine, and using neutrinos produced by the NuMI beam
- NuTeV - a neutrino cross-section experiment - data taking completed 1998, and the experiment is now in the data analysis and publication stage
- Donut - an experiment to directly observe Tau neutrinos - data taking completed 1998, and the experiment is now in the data analysis and publication stage
MINOS's precursors
By no means exhaustive, but these experiments are MINOS's immediate ancestors in some sense.
