The CHIPS experiment is a prototype 5-10kiloton water cherenkov detector which will study neutrinos from the NuMI neutrino beam at FNAL.
It is presently submerged in a flooded quarry taking cosmic data. Next year it will be expanded to 10 kilotons and data taking will continue.
The PhD will involve participation in Data Aquisition, Hardware commissioning and data analysis in a small group (<12 people total).
It will give the student a chance to appreciate the whole concept of the experiment and play a very central role in its success.
