PhD project: The g-2 experiment

Supervisor: Dr Gavin Hesketh

The Muon g-2 experiment at Fermilab (USA) is performing a precision test of the Standard Model. Previous measurements of the muon's anomalous magnetic moment (g-2) show a tension with predictions which may indicate physics beyond the Standard Model: one of the few possible signs of BSM physics we have today. The ongoing measurement of g-2 is therefore one of the most interesting results expected in the next few years. This PhD project would include time at Fermilab during data taking, involvement in all levels of the operation of this small experiment, as well as playing a leading role in the final data analysis for g-2. More details on g-2 at UCL can be found here.
