Overview
The 2009 Particle Physics MasterClass at UCL will take place on Monday 23th March.
REGISTRATION FOR THE 2009 MASTERCLASS IS OPEN.
We invite fifth and sixth form students and teachers with interest in Physics to come and find out about the exciting world of Experimental Particle Physics from one of the most active Particle Physics research groups in the country.
The day will be a mixture of short talks by research physicists, discussion sessions and hands-on activities at UCL. You will have the chance to hear and ask questions about the Large Hadron Collider (due to start operating at CERN later this year), the search for the Higgs boson (thought to be responsible for the origin of mass), the properties of neutrinos (the tiniest elementary particles), and other topics at the forefront of Particle Physics research. The afternoon will be devoted to an hand-on activity, namely the scanning of simulated events using the Atlas visualization program ATLANTIS (the same that is used in the control room), in videoconference with other universities and labs in the world (mainly USA).
