Orientation	Why is the scientific problem of interest at all?
How	How is the research going to shed light on the given problem?. Spin ice, discovered in our group, is a remarkable magnetic substance showing zero point entropy and emergent magnetic `monopoles' at low temperature (see the recent New Scientist cover article, 6th May, 2009).
What	What is the specific thing that the student will do, and how does it fit inside the overall project? This project will combine theory and experiment to investigate spin ice and related materials
