Orientation |
Why is
the scientific problem of interest at all? Ultra-high
energy neutrinos could provide a new window on the Universe. They may provide
the only definitive way to determine the origin of ultra-high energy cosmic
rays, and solve a 50-year old mystery. |
How |
How is
the research going to shed light on the given problem?. There are several current and currently proposed
experiments to utilise the Antarctic ice as a target medium for a gigantic
ultra-high energy neutrino telescope. |
What |
What is the specific
thing that the student will do, and how does it fit inside the overall
project? This project will use data from the stations to
calibrate the geometry and timing delays of the detectors in Antarctica.
Simulation studies will assess the sensitivity of the ARA experiment, in
particular to the different neutrino flavours. |
