MCnet Studentship on ATLAS, Rivet and Contur starting October 2017

A PhD studentship at UCL with Jon Butterworth, jointly supervised with Andy Buckley at Glasgow University, is available starting from September 2017. The student will be a member of the ATLAS collaboration at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, and will participate in data-taking and analysis. The project will be focussed on using ATLAS data and MCnet tools such as Rivet to search for and constrain physics beyond the standard model.

The studentship is one of several funded by the MCnet ERC ITN and is open to anyone who has not resided or carried out their main activity (work or study) in the country where the post is based (in this case, the UK) for more than 12 months in the previous 36 months. Other MCnet studentships are available in other countries, so if you fail the above eligibility you may be eligible for one of those.

  • Contact J.Butterworth@ucl.ac.uk for informal enquiries on this studentship,
  • See the UCL PhD application page for how to apply for it, and
  • follow this link for details of the MCnet scheme in general, including eligibility details.
  • Complete the MCnet application form here as well as the UCL form.
  • Applications for this studentship will continue to be accepted after the UCL HEP deadline of 31 Jan . The funding for the studentship is associated with an Early Stage Research position at UCL. Candidates will have to apply for this as well (sorry for all the complications/paperwork but hopefully most of it is the same!)
