Experiment Plan

Estimated first beam: 16.00.

  1. Set up mains cabling and networking in treatment and control rooms.
  2. Install Peli case and Giraffe on treatment couch:
    1. Set up 2 x 2.86mm stacks for shoot through measurement of range pullback at ~245MeV (no DAQ needed).
    2. Align Peli case and Giraffe using in-room lasers.
    3.  Measure range pullback of combined stack, each individual stack and empty case.
  3. Set up Peli case for range pullback measurement of single block:
    1. Remove long rail from Peli case and install single scintillator block.
    2. Simultaneously dismantle 2 x 2.86mm stacks and assemble Clatterbridge stacks with rev.B DDC board.
    3. Check alignment of Peli case and Giraffe.
    4. Measure range pullback of single block.
  4. Set up Peli case for range pullback measurement of 32 x 3mm stack:
    1. Remove single scintillator block.
    2. Install 32 x 3mm stack with rotated rail; reinstall long rail.
    3. Simultaneously install single scintillator block in Zarges case with camera.
    4. Check alignment of Peli case and Giraffe.
    5. Measure range pullback of 32 x 3mm stack.
  5. Set up Peli case for range pullback measurement of Clatterbridge stacks:
    1. Remove 32 x 3mm stack; install Clatterbridge stacks on long rail and clamp in place.
    2. Check alignment of Peli case and Giraffe.
    3. Measure range pullback of Clatterbridge stacks together and individually.
  6. Set up Zarges case for single block quenching measurements:
    1. Remove Peli case and Giraffe from treatment couch.
    2. Install Zarges case on treatment couch and align with room lasers.
    3. Connect DAQ and check camera functionality.
    4. Simultaneously set up Peli case with Clatterbridge stacks and FPGAs ready for shoot throughs.
    5. Measure light output from shoot through and set exposure time.
    6. Record photos of single block light output for energies from 70 MeV to ~150MeV (maximum energy with beam still in block).
  7. Set up Peli case for Clatterbridge DAQ measurements:
    1. Remove Zarges case from treatment couch; install Peli case with FPGA, cabling and Clatterbridge stacks.
    2. Check alignment of Peli case and DAQ hardware.
    3. Record DDC calibration data for shoot through and background.
  8. Set up Peli case for 32 x 3mm stack measurements:
    1. Remove Clatterbridge stacks and store safely.
    2. Install 32 x 3mm stack in Peli case with rev.C/D DDC board.
    3. Check alignment of Peli case and DAQ hardware.
    4. Measure background and shoot through of 32 x 3mm stack.
    5. Measure proton energies in range 70–110 MeV.
  9. Dismantle equipment, pack up and fuck off.
