A Song For The Dying

Another road, another soul
Another life lived on its own
Breaking down, falling down
A time that has already come to end

And we knew it long ago
We saw the to and fro
Gripped by wandering
And the magic of imagination
We held on for so long
So long

As the days follow one another
The sun rises and the glorious light
Smothers the earth once again
And we breathe in the fresh air
Gifted to us by eternity
Oxygen passed out
Across the universe

But everything that’s born
Must die
And everything old must pass
And every old thing must make way
For the new
For the new

Yet we cling to what’s already dying
We hold on to what we know
We desperately wish
We can control
The ebbing of the tides
The passing of the seasons
THe rolling of the years
In time
In time

But my time has come to pass
To pass on, pass on
For the new must come in
And metabolise the old
For this is what rebirth is
Everything recycled
All brought back to life
In new forms
New forms

A new song that must be sung
A new tide that must be turned
A new child that must be born
As the father dies
Father dies

So let go let go let go
It’s already here, already here
There’s no need to hold on hold on
It’s already passed, already passed
There are cycles in the sands
There’s a passing of the seas
There’s a constant in the change
If being free, being free
