Map
Description
The above map shows the current ANITA location (taken from the ADU5 GPS) superimposed over a map showing the ice thickness across Antarctica. ANITA is represented by the garish triangle, and a selection of Antarctic bases are represented by black squares. The two redish squares represent the location of the two pulser stations (Willy Field and Taylor Dome).
The ice thickness data was obtained from the BEDMAP consortium. The transform from latitude and longitude to position on the above projection, of the payload and bases, was done by me by hand and may well be slightly wrong
The following bases are plotted:
- Amundsen-Scott
- Scott Base
- McMurdo Station
- Dome C
- Vostok
- Dumont d'Urville
- Casey
- Mirny
- Davis
- Progress
- Zhong Shon
- Mawson
- Molodezhnaya
- Syowa
- Taylor Dome
- Halley
- Neumayer
- Novolazarevskaya
- SANAE 4 "Vesles"
- General Belgrano II
- Palmer
- WAIS
- Vicecomodoro Marambio
- Commandante Ferraz
- Henryk Arctovsky
- Patriot Hills
These were selected from the latest political map of Antarctica on the Univeristy of Texas site. The locations were obtained from this site. It is left as an exercise for the viewer to determine which black square corresponds to which station.
