Guide to using the D.17 Conference Phone as a Mic / Speaker on PC85 with OnWan.

(Use this document in conjunction with how-to at http://www.hep.ucl.ac.uk/protected/video-conf/)
On-Screen Actions are denoted by  >,  Physical actions denoted by -.
(Assuming conference phone's already connected just read red instructions for quick start).

> Login to PC85, Username: hep (password available from support team)

> Start OnWan software: double-click "Videoconference Start" icon on the desktop

        Zydachron splash  screen will display, followed by opening of video display self-view window. Camera can be adjusted via OnWan software for position.

> Tools > controls > audio controls

default should be:
         input = headset (actually hand-held mic plugged into headset socket on flying lead from Zydachron card, not PC's mic input)
         output = spkrs

- Unplug conference phone from telephone socket on other side of room, detach black flying lead that goes between phone PSU and wall.

- You should connect a spare telephone to the phone line when conference phone is disconnected

- Move conference phone psu near to PC85 and connect white telephone adaptor cable from OnWan card to conference phone PSU.

- Press "dial" / "off-hook" button on conference phone (green "live" lights will illuminate, ignore any sounds it makes through speakers at this point).

> Auto select  {input:telephone and output:telephone should automatically now be selected}. (if not try cycling on/off hook button on conference  phone or unplugging / replugging white cable into conference phone psu then repeat auto select). When recognised your input sound level meter should register as you speak to confirm it's working

> OK to close window

> Phone > Dial (network:Lan, type:384k if applicable) > enter i/p number to dial.

Projector can be switched on and input selected to display PC videoconferencing window if desired. (Remote control works well from corner of room near PC85)

** If "videoconferencing software has crashed, do you want to inform Microsoft" message appears reboot PC85 and start again **.

When finished >

> Phone > hangup {to end call}

> File > exit {to exit OnWan application}

- Hang Up (press button off) conference phone

> Log Off

- Please plug conference phone back into the telephone socket across the room (for people who may wish to use it for phone conferencing and be unaware of it's videoconferencing capabilities).

- Turn off projector if you used it, and please tidy any network cables you may have strewn across the room during your conference (No, I said tidy, not leave in a tangled mess on the floor)
