TCP/IP Transfer Tests

This page documents the tests that i've performed using various new and old stacks using the TCP/IP protocol. It focuses on the new TCP protocols for High Latency, high bandwidth environments.

Links and Background

  Description
HSTCP HSTCP is a protocol developed by Sally Floyd which involves adpatively changing the cwnd according to its size. Here.
ScalableTCP Developed by Tom Kelly, it uses MIMD to achieve high throughput and stability. Here.
FAST Developed by Caltech, it uses the Vega core to judge the the delay from ACKs to judge how much to put onto the network to avoid congestion. Here.

Testbeds

MB-NG @ 1Gb/sec bottleneck

The MB-NG network is a high bandwidth low latency network in the UK. Max Capacity 2.5Gb/sec, latency LON->MAN = 6msec.

  Description
pktdrop Loss induction at recv to simulate differing network environments. Results here.
cbr bg Various cbrbg loads were generated with udp iperf and tcp run on top. Results here.
similar bg Self Similar udp traffic was sent through the network and tcp run over it. Results here.

Datatag @ 1Gb/sec bottleneck

The DataTAG testbed is a high bandwidth, high latency network stretching across the Atlantic from Geneva to Chicago. Max Capacity is now 10Gb/sec.

  Description
pktdrop Loss induction at recv to simulate differing network environments. Results here.
cbr bg Various cbrbg loads were generated with udp iperf and tcp run on top. Results here.
similar bg Self Similar udp traffic was sent through the network and tcp run over it. Results here.
