Public Engagement
I am strongly committed to communicating science, both to explain and justify the research we currently do, and to encourage the next generation of scientists and creative thinkers.
The Particle Zoo
In 2016 I wrote *The Particle Zoo (Quercus) as a general reader’s guide to particles, the Large Hadron Collider, the Higgs Boson, and what discoveries may lie in the future. Here is a review from the Mail on Sunday, and is available from Amazon (4.5 / 5 stars) and good bookshops everywhere! It has also been translated into three other languages.
Events
I particularly enjoy live events, and have spoken at Cheltenham, Edinburgh and the British Science Festivals and the New Scientist’s Instant Expert Event on particle physics. Pint of Science is a particularly fun event I’ve appeared at twice.
I’ve organised and run events at Science Museum Lates, Fun Palace, Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition, the Big Bang Fair, UCL’s own Your Universe festival and more.
Media
I have worked with the BBC on an award winning episode of the documentary series Horizon, as well as Stargazing Live. I have appeared on Radio 5Live and Austria Radio Vienna, as well as making short videos for Ask a Scientist. I have written for The Conversation and other publications, and wrote an e-book for the Institute of Physics.
