The Knights Youth AFC

The Knights play in the Youth Kitted League, the Under-19's American Football League in Britain. I played for them from 1994-1996. In '94, my first season of kitted football, we made it to the National Final against the Birmingham Bulls, losing 30-22. Down 30-6 at half-time, we scored 16 unanswered points in the 2nd half, but were unable to stop the Bulls on their final drive. In '95 we got to the semi-finals, losing to the London Capitals.

'96 was the classic year. Although the YKL had to resort to playing 9-a-side games for the regular season (reverting to 11-a-side for the playoffs), the Knights breezed through the regular season, defeated the London Capitals 6-0 in the semi-finals and defeated the Lancashire Wolverines Colts 20-0 in the National Final. Astonishingly, we didn't concede a single point all season (except for a touchdown against Southend/Kent in a controlled scrimmage). Here are a few pictures from the 3 seasons I played with the Knights.

The '94 Farnham Knights. All but 7 of this squad played for GB, some at Youth and College level. Sam Nason (#69) was legendary, and had his number retired after the season ended. Smashing one of the Southern Sundevils running backs (hidden) in '95, along with Gerald French (also hidden), Carl Smith and MJ. Postgame of the same game, having scored a TD from Defensive End (fumble recovery in the End Zone, mercilessly stolen from Greg Goldie).
Trying my best, along with MJ, to tear the head off Nick Hewitt, FB and QB for the Gloucester Gladiators, in the '96 regular season. Downfield blocking for Benny Blanco, along with Greg Goldie, in the '96 National Final against Lancashire. More blocking for Paul "Benny Blanco" Wakeford in the same game. The 1996 National Champion Farnham Knights.
Points for: Lots.
Points against: Zero.
Have that...
Performing the Knights fly-past after the final whistle. My brother Martin, my mother and me after the game. With Huw Stacey. Huw and I played left guard and tackle together for the Knights in '94.
