This is the home page for EDGSim, a simulation of the European Data Grid project, an EU funded initiative to develop a next generation distributed computing network for high energy physics analysis. The simulation is intended to replicate the communication between the components of the EDG, rather than reproducing their complex functionality in exact detail. A job can be generated, and then its lifetime can be followed as it is scheduled, submitted, queued, run and completed. The EDG components running at the simulated sites pass information to each other, coordinate the transfer of large data files needed to run a job, and distribute the jobs effectively between available machines. EDGSim was written using the Java-based Ptolemy II heterogeneous concurrent design and modelling software. Some further information can be found here: Slides (cannibalised from a couple of recent talks) assembled as a handout for the 6th GridPP collaboration meeting are here in PostScript form. This page is still under construction. If you have any comments or questions, mail me at pac@hep.ucl.ac.uk. Last modified: Wed Jan 29 17:00:18 GMT 2003 |
