Self Simlar Background As we are conducting tests on real equipment and not on simulator, it it often difficult to perform tests under different network conditions. We could use something like dummynet to similute packet loss and delay, however, we would not be able to achieve the capacities nor the latencies required for our studies. In order to generate self similar background traffic, we created a tool that can output a set number of packets per time interval. We then used fft_fgn to generate a distirbution wich is self similar. Usage Using the tools-server.pl scripts and tcp-with-selfsimilar-background.pl; it run's Frank Saka's fip suite that generates traffic profiles. Traffic profile were generated by fft_fgn with a Hurst of 1 and a max of 120 pkts. The time interval per period was set to 1476 usec to match the maximum of 120 pkts for line rate. Download
