There are many pubs in the area the list below is only a very small selection of pubs visited by members of the UCL HEP group. A much more comprehensive list may be obtained by searching www.beerintheevening.com for pubs near Euston Square tube or (for the hotel) Russel Square tube.
Pubs Local to UCL
Jeremy Bentham
31 University Street
This is convenient as it is the closest pub to the college. Unfortuately, it tends to get very crowded especially late in the week.
Beer
A range of 4 or 5 real ales on pump, usually including Caledonian Deuchar's IPA, plus the usual lagers
The Exmouth Arms
1 Starcross Street
Much quieter pub than most in the area since it's a bit off the main road. The HEP group sometimes go here on a Friday now instead of the Bentham.
Beer
Shepherd Neame Spitfire and Courage Best.
Head of Steam (Doric Arch)
1 Eversholt Street (Euston Collonade)
This is quite close to the Physics Dept. but has no outside drinking area so not frequented so much during the summer.
Beer
A good range of real ales on pump, 4 or 5 of Fullers own plus various guests.
Mabels Tavern
9 Mabeldon Place
This year's North London CAMRA pub of the year
Beer
Most if not all of Shepherd Neame's range are available. Master Brew, Bishop's Finger, Spitfire, Kent's Best and a seasonal Ale.
Near the hotel
Night and Day
61-66 Russell Square
Noisy modern bar in the ground floor of a Hotel but surprisingly good selection of beer and quite cheap too.
Beer
4 ales available (Deuchars IPA, Greene King IPA, Shep's Spitfire...).
The Swan
7, Cosmo Place
A bit roomier than the Queen's Larder down the road and if you want to drink Old Peculiar this is the place, otherwise it's not very insiring.
Beer
Usually has Theakstons Old Peculiar and a couple of others
Queens Larder
1 Queen Square
A small pub just down Cosmo Place from the Swan.
Beer
3 ales from the Greene King range.
The Rugby Tavern
19 Great James Street
Another Shepherd Neame pub.
Beer
Master Brew, Spitfire and Whitstable Bay Organic Ale.
The Lamb
94 Lambs Conduit St
Noted for it's historical interior features, unfortunately not the best place to drink Youngs beers.
Beer
Youngs Bitter and Youngs Special
The Calthorpe Arms
252 Grays Inn Road
This is what Youngs beer is supposed to taste like.
Beer
Youngs Bitter, Youngs Special and Youngs Ramrod.
A bit further afield
The Ship
110 Wardour Street
Beer
The usual Fullers selection
Beer
