Research Fellow in Neutrinoless Double-Beta Decay and LEGEND (Ref:1885911)
The UCL High Energy Physics (HEP) Group has an immediate opening for an outstanding PhD physicist to work on the LEGEND neutrinoless double-beta decay experiment.
The post-holder will take responsibility for the data taking and data-reduction pipeline for the LEGEND-200 experiment, which is about to start data-taking, and then lead and coordinate the development of the first background model and physics analysis. They will also develop new detector technologies for the next phases of LEGEND, i.e. LEGEND-1000.
This position is funded for 2 years and 1 month in the first instance.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in physics. Candidates should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of particle-physics experimentation and data-analysis is essential. Computing, coding and modelling experience is also required. Specific knowledge of neutrinoless double-beta decay, low-background techniques and germanium detector technology are all preferred.
Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (salary £32,217 - £33,958 per annum), inclusive of London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
